After reading and watch A Room With A View, I always thought how romantic would it be to have an Italian destination wedding? I know many celebrities have them in Venice or Rome or Florence. But I’ve always had a soft spot for the Italian riviera.

But for this piece I worked on, I was inspired by Lucy Honeychurch and George Emerson’s meeting in Florence. I researched traditional ornamental lettering from the Italian book L’ornamentazione by G. Vendrame. It’s a great collection of Italian handlettering and monogram which works well for this piece.

I also wanted to use the italic hand specific for this piece because Italian writing is one of a humanist style. That is why I referenced many of the flourish and styling from Arrighi’s Operina, which is a must have for anyone studying traditional calligraphy.
