At the end of 2021, Karla Chew introduced another #DesignYourDreamInvites challenge. And I just had to do the challenge!

I was booked the end of last year so I finally started the new year working on these samples. They are just so fun to work on!

For the first day challenge, we are introduce to Devon and Mark who are getting married in San Francisco, California at Flood Mansion. Karla was very specific that the couple wanted a chic and modern wedding but also very luxurious. She mentioned Jo Malone and influencer, Chriselle Lim.

As with all challenge, Karla said you could go as crazy as you want so my first concept included wine bottle invites, which was shot down. Well, mostly Karla said if it’s an international guest list, shipping wine is hard and potentially problematic. Very good to know!

So knowing that I eventually wanted to recreate this wedding sample at home, I worked out some new details that would allow me to do a DIY that was still chic and classy with that hint of luxury.

Save the Date

To keep in line with that Jo Malone feel, I painted the black and white envelope insert. For the cards, I decided to use pergamenata paper which mimics vellum but has a grit to it. I really like this paper a lot because you can also do calligraphy with it.

Wedding Invitation

For the invitation, I use pergamenata paper again for the invite and the RSVP card. I chose to keep the RSVP card white. Most people have black and blue pen readily and I knew a paper that’s friendly to both pencil and pen is necessary. I wrapped the set in semi-transparent paper and sealed with a white wax. Again the envelope insert is a painted black and white paper.

Wedding Favors, Name Card, and Drinks Menu

For the event, I remember that acrylic and glass was the ideal centerpieces. I used acrylic frame to write the drinks menu. I also used glass vials with crystal (maybe infused Reiki crystal!) with hand written names as both name cards and favors. I think this is a unique and classy idea.

Overall, the black and white minimal DIY wedding design is one of my favorite in its own way. I love all the simplicity yet the luxury feeling it evokes.
