For Karla Chew of Written Word Calligraphy‘s #DesignYourDreamInvites Day 2 challenge, she introduced Samantha and Garreth who are planning a destination wedding at Château de Challain-la-Potherie, France.

DesignYourDreamInvites Day 2

This challenge was my favorite. It was over the top and I pushed myself out of my minimal comfort zone. I thought of all these ideas for letterpress, wax seals, dance cards, love letter rehearsal notes, and a Baroque inspired box invitation with 3D butterfly model.

The sketch was done in 1 hour.

Sketches for Baroque Inspired Wedding

For the motif and the monogram, I designed it by hand before finishing it in Procreate. I also sketched out the text before writing it on nicer paper.

The whole production is done at home so I did not do letterpress. However, I used hot foil and did my own calligraphy in gold ink to mimic the letterpress in gold look.

Baroque Inspired Save the Date

Save the Date

I wrote the entire wording using Kuretake gold on Arches hot press watercolor 5×7 paper. Hot foil is used for the border design.

The envelope is a gold Recollections from Michaels. I used Paynes’s Gray for the address. For a little bit of extra, I added rhinestone to the Save the Date card, which I got at a local Dollar store.

The gold wax is from Fiona Ariva. The seal is letter S. I tied it with leftover ribbon from Honey and Silk.

Here’s a video of the wax seal I posted on Instagram.

Invitation Box

This is my pièce de résistance. I was very much inspired by Ceci New York but theirs is absolutely stunning and high production. I had to somehow imitate on what I could get my hands on.

Baroque Inspired Wedding Box

The box is a vintage jewelry box I found on Etsy and I used a hot foil to create the monogram. I added the ribbon and an insert to hold the RSVP and detail card.

Baroque Inspired RSVP

The RSVP is the Recollections Gold set which I cut in half and it is handwritten in Paynes Gray. The envelope is Crane’s envelope.

Baroque Inspired Details

The detail insert is printed on Arches hot press 5×7. The gold calligraphy is hand written afterwards.

Baroque Inspired Wedding Box

The invite is hand written using Kuretake gold on hand cut Arches hot press watercolor paper. I added gold butterflies (from Etsy) for final touches.

Baroque Inspired Place Cards

Table and Place Cards

The table signage is hand painted in gold and Paynes Gray on Fabriano paper by me. The place cards are also Paynes Gray on scrap paper, which I die cut to add the ribbon.

Overall, I wanted this to feel like an upscale Baroque inspired wedding but it was all hand done (DIY!).
